As our ecopods are highly concentrated, they sometimes require certain hazard symbols. However, once diluted, they are less hazardous to non-hazardous. Here are the two hazard symbols you may encounter on COLIBRI packaging for the concentrated ecopods and their meaning: WARNING (Refers to one or more of the following hazards: Harmful if swallowed, May cause skin and/or eye irritation, May cause allergic skin reaction) and CORROSIVE (Refers to one or more of the following hazards: Causes severe skin burns, Causes severe eye damage).
We strongly recommend that COLIBRI ecopods are always stored in a safe place, out of reach of children and pets. Once diluted, our products are perfectly safe to use in the house around children and pets. Never use on children or pets of course!
COLIBRI products are NOT and NEVER will be tested on animals.
Yes, absolutely, provided you always handle them with dry hands and the ecopod have not been cut, torn or ruptured in any way.
The ecopod should dissolve fully within a couple of minutes if warm water is used. Cold water can also be used, but the ecopod may take a couple of extra minutes to dissolve fully.
Our products are made in Germany, giving us easy access to key ingredients whilst minimising transport emissions.
The film used for our ecopods consists of a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) polymer. By definition, a plastic is any synthetic, polymeric material that can be moulded into shape and set into a rigid or slightly elastic form. By this definition, PVA film can be regarded as a type of plastic. However, unlike other plastics, PVA film is fully water soluble and biodegradable by at least 55 different kinds of microbial organisms. It is also non-toxic to fish and even the most sensitive of aquatic microorganism, if released into the ocean or water streams. The PVA we use does thus does not pose any risk to the environment or its many beautiful creatures.
No, COLIBRI products are not anti-bacterial. We believe the ingredients that gives antibacterial properties often do more harm than good. They target harmful bacteria, but also good microorganisms. In addition, they pose health risks to the users.
Microbial contamination can have a negative effect of a product, or worse be a health risk to users, so it is important to avoid spoilage of the products. Each COLIBRI product is specially formulated for a specific cleaning application. Wherever possible we avoid using preservative, and some of our formulations will preserve themselves naturally. However this is not possible for every formulation and application, so for these we add the minimum amount of preservative required to stop spoilage in the diluted product.
When diluted as instructed (500-750ml water), all diluted COLIBRI products, except for the Floor cleaner, can be stored in a sealed container (such as a trigger spray bottle) for a period of up to 2 years without being susceptible to microbial spoilage. For the floor cleaner, unused diluted cleaner should be discarded after use and cannot be stored for later use.
We only choose ingredients that are readily biodegradable and from responsible manufacturers. We also, wherever possible, try our best to source ingredients as locally as possible to minimise transport emissions. Our products consist of a mixture of plant-based, natural and synthetic ingredients and we are continually working towards improving the sustainability of our ingredients. The safety of our products for the user and the environment is our number one priority and we will NEVER include any ingredients that are suspected or known to be carcinogenic, mutagenic, fatal or toxic if ingested/inhaled or may cause damage to organs or unborn children.
Although in theory many types of plastics are infinitely recyclable, in practice a very large proportion of recyclable plastics end up in landfill sites and our natural environment across the world. This happens because of a lack of recycling facilities, confusing recycling systems, contamination with other non-recyclable waste and several other reasons. Additionally, recycling requires additional energy and resources to break down and reform the plastic, unlike refilling and reusing. This means less plastic produced and less waste overall, vastly improving the carbon footprint of the plastic. Plus, even after your refillable bottle can’t be reused anymore, it can still be recycled.
Absolutely! Just give it a good rinse, insert our ecopod, fill with tap water and voila! For best results we recommend using a 750ml bottle, but 500ml bottle will work just as well.
Most ready-to-use cleaning products are more than 90% water. We’ve taken out the water to make it easy to reuse and refill your bottle over and over again. It also means they are small, light and easy to carry.
Yes, absolutely! All COLIBRI products have been tested against market leading ready-to-use products to ensure they can perform alongside the best. We firmly believe in quality without compromise.
